We’re looking for a Manual QA Engineer with fluent or native Mandarin Chinese to join an international IoT project.
You’ll work with physical IoT devices and the software ecosystem around them, collaborating closely with firmware engineers in China and Akvelon’s Development and QA teams.
An important part of the role is helping bridge technical communication between Mandarin- and English-speaking engineering teams, ensuring that requirements, defects, and expected system behavior are clearly understood.
What you’ll do
- Perform hands-on manual testing of IoT and embedded devices
- Test end-to-end workflows across devices, firmware, communication protocols, backend/API, and Web/Mobile UI
- Test and troubleshoot MQTT, Modbus and RS485 communication
- Validate firmware releases, device configuration, connectivity, upgrades, recovery scenarios, and integrations
- Investigate defects, analyze logs and identify whether issues originate in hardware, firmware, network, protocol, backend, or UI
- Perform regression, integration, negative and recovery testing
- Create clear test cases, defect reports and release-validation documentation
- Work closely with the China-based firmware team and help clarify technical requirements and issues between Mandarin- and English-speaking teams
What we’re looking for
- Fluent or native Mandarin Chinese
- Professional working proficiency in English
- Strong Manual QA experience
- Hands-on experience testing IoT, embedded devices, smart-home, building automation, or similar hardware/software systems
- Practical experience with MQTT and MQTT debugging tools
- Knowledge of Modbus and RS485
- Understanding of Protocol Buffers (ProtoBuf)
- Experience with REST APIs and backend integration testing
- Basic networking knowledge: TCP/IP, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, DHCP, DNS/mDNS, ports
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across multiple hardware and software components
Nice to have
- Experience with sensors, gateways, lighting controllers, or other connected devices
- Firmware / OTA upgrade testing
- Linux and command-line diagnostic tools
- Wireshark or similar network/protocol analysis tools
- Serial communication diagnostic tools
- Basic IoT/API/MQTT test automation experience
- Previous experience working with distributed international engineering teams
